Argyle u-18s 5 Exeter City 2
TWO braces from two forwards named Alex propelled Argyle t their first Merit League victory of the season - and it was made even more satisfying against local rivals Exeter.
Alex Fletcher scored twice, either side of a Jason Vincent goal, to give Argyle a three goal lead at half-time. After a brief Grecians flurry, Alex Battle scored twice to put Argyle way beyond Exeter, even with their late consolation effort.
The young Pilgrims had a great start with Fletcher robbing the visiting goalkeeper to score into an empty net after just three minutes.
Vincent converted Jack Calver's cross to make it 2-0 on 19 minutes with Fletcher heading home Battle's precise right wing cross two minutes before the interval.
Exeter came back strongly after the break, pulling a goal back on 50 minutes before enjoying their best spell of the game. Unfortunately for the visitors they could not take their chances and it was Argyle who made it 4-1 on 72 minutes when Battle found the back of the net from 25 yards.
Battle struck again, three minutes from time, with a low drive, from the edge of the area, that flew into the corner of the visitors' goal.
Exeter notched a consolation goal, two minutes from time, but it was too late to alter the result.
Argyle: Cory Harvey, Sam Ryan, Jamil Roberts, Jordan Bentley (Harry Downing 80), Liam Knowles, Dan Rooney (Josh Richards 75), Jack Calver, Ben Steer, Alex Battle, Alex Fletcher, Jason Vincent (Luke Jephcott 75).
