Community Cup Cancelled

IT is with great regret that the Argyle Community Trust have to announce the cancellation of the Plymouth Argyle Community Cup for 2016.

This decision was taken after a series of discussions between the club and Argyle Community Trust, and a combination of factors have forced us into sadly cancelling what has become a flagship event for the Trust.

Our original plan was to use the first-team pitch at Home Park, providing youngsters a unique opportunity to play on the hallowed turf but the much publicized algae infection of the playing surface, allied with the Rod Stewart concert in June, has prompted the renovation process to be brought forward.

We then rescheduled to use the Harper’s Park training ground but this has again been thwarted by the superb success of reaching the play-off final, and the first-team will quite understandably require the use of their training facilities in preparation for the big game at Wembley.

We have explored a number of alternative venues but, with 96 teams scheduled to compete in the Community Cup, the logistical practicalities of redirecting all the facilities required, such as catering, toilet facilities, parking etc has prevented this from being a viable option. The inclement weather predicted for this weekend has also been a factor in this difficult decision.

The club has done everything in its power to ensure the tournament could continue and we all apologise sincerely for the short notice.

As a Trust, we are very grateful to Football Development Manager Jason Chapman for his exhaustive efforts in organizing the tournament and we now have the onerous task of informing all the participating teams, as well as the external outlets involved in making the Community Cup a success.

All teams will be sent a full refund and, as a gesture of our regret, we will provide each of the 96 clubs involved with 20 free tickets for the pre-season friendly against West Bromwich Albion at Home Park.

We hope you can understand the reasons for this cancellation and we thank you for your continued support and cooperation. If have any further questions, please contact Argyle Community Trust Manager Mark Lovell on 01752 562561 ext 4 or email mark.lovell@pafc.co.uk
