Reasons to be Cheerful - Argyle v Hartlepool
6th May 2016
Setting Records
Saturday will mark 22 years ago to the day of a season-closing game against Hartlepool - curiously, a season in which Argyle would enter the play-offs. The Pilgrims strolled to an 8-1 victory at the Victoria Ground, with Richard Landon getting a hat trick; Paul Dalton scoring a brace; and Dwight Marshall, Steve McCall and Steve Castle getting a goal each.
Home is Where the Hart Is
Argyle have won half of their home games against Hartlepool United. The Pilgrims have met the Pools at Home Park 12 times, and won six, drawn four and lost just twice. The last time Argyle met Hartlepool at Home Park, Marvin Morgan and Nathan Thomas netted in a 2-0 Argyle win in September 2014.
One Down, One To Go
The Pilgrims have already beaten Hartlepool this season. The game looked as if it was going to be a stalemate, but it came to life in the last fifteen minutes. Carl McHugh opened the scoring in the 76th minute, Scott Fenwick equalised for the Pools from the spot eight minutes later, and then Kelvin Mellor scored the winner in the last minute, to take Argyle to the top of the table.
