ARGYLE won the Edenvale Turf Ltd Devon St Luke's Challenge Cup on penalties for the second year in succession.

Following last season's victory on penalties over Bideford, following a 4-4 draw, this year's contest against Witheridge was a little more cagey. The deadlock could not be broken after the 90 minutes, leading to a shoot-out once more.

Argyle goalkeeper Vincent Dorel saved Witheridge's second penalty, while all five Pilgrims - Louis Rooney, Billy Palfrey, Tyler Harvey, Alex Fletcher and Jack Calver - converted their efforts from 12 yards.

The Pilgrims had looked solid in the first half, with Callum Hall and Harvey going close in quick succession, but the break came with the game still goalless. In the second period, Steve Avery's acrobatics for Witheridge threatened a breakthrough for the underdogs, while Bradley Kelly missed a late chance from a one-on-one. In between, Rooney went close twice for Argyle to no avail.

In the end, penalties were needed again - and it was Argyle who bowled their South West Peninsular League Premier Division opponents over.
