7th November 2016
ARGYLE have drawn Alfreton Town or Newport County in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup.
After a 2-1 win at Mansfield Town on Saturday, Argyle must now turn their attention to the visit of either Alfreton, of the Vanarama National League North or County, bottom of Sky Bet League Two.The sides drew 1-1 at the weekend, and are set to replay on Tuesday, November 15.
Argyle were pulled out of the hat by from Pilgrims loanee Jim Beglin, and could play a side managed by an ex-player, too. Alfreton, only a few miles from Mansfield, are managed by Nicky Law, who played 43 times for Argyle between 1986 and 1988.
We have already faced Newport twice this season. A 2-1 win at Rodney Parade just a few weeks ago followed a 4-1 home victory in the Checkatrade Trophy in August.
The old incarnation of Newport County were Argyle's third round opponents in 1983-84: the year Argyle got to the FA Cup semi-finals. The Pilgrims won following a replay. The only other FA Cup game in the teams' histories came in 1980-81, when Argyle won 2-0 in the second round.
Second round ties are due to take place on the weekend of December 3/4.
We will announce ticket information as soon as it has been agreed.
