One More Round
7th November 2016
ARGYLE FA Cup hero David Fox does not want to reach the third round of the competition and pull out a Premier League plum.
He wants far more than that.
The Pilgrims’ midfielder fired his team into the second round of the Emirates FA Cup with an 80th-minute winner in their 2-1 victory away to Mansfield.
Argyle are now one tie away from reaching the third round, when Premier League sides enter the tournament, but Foxy is looking both at and beyond Monday night’s second-round draw.
He said: “There are some good teams left in the second-round draw. Hopefully, we can get a home draw in that and try to progress to the third round. That’s everyone’s aim.
“Once we’re in the third round, we want to try to win that because you are in the competition to go as far as you can.
“For a lot of people, some of the best memories are in the FA Cup and what they’ve done. We’re no different – you have got the chance to make your mark. We’ll see how it goes.”
With Argyle having chalked up a seventh win on the road from nine games in all competitions this season at the One Call Stadium, a home tie is not high on Foxy’s list of priorities.
“It’s a good time to be going away from because we feel like we can win at most places,” he said.
He would be delighted, no doubt, to add the Alexandra Stadium to ‘most places’ when Argyle visit his old stamping ground in Sky Bet League Two next Saturday.
“That’s the game I’ve looked forward to since the start of the season,” he said. “It will be nice to go back.
“They are doing really well; they have got some good young players. We are under no illusions - like every game in this league, it will be a very tough match.”
