Peninsula Report - Witheridge 0 Argyle 5

ARGYLE moved up to third in the Peninsula League Premier Division with an efficient performance against a hardworking Witheridge outfit.

The hosts have endured a tough start to the campaign but they opened this match with impressive vigour, throwing men forward in a determined attempt to make inroads in the Argyle defence.

The Pilgrims had to stand firm and eventually got the passing rhythm going, breaking the deadlock on the half-hour with a good finish from the outstanding Alex Fletcher.

Argyle gradually took control after the break, playing at a higher tempo and this was rewarded with Fletcher grabbing his second from a corner. The hat-trick goal for Fletcher was a beauty, finishing with a diving header after fine work down the right involving David Ijaha, Connor McCauley and Billy Palfrey.

Ben Steer then notched with an individual effort and the scoring was complete ten minutes from time, when Alex Battle benefited from a missed clearance by the Witheridge ‘keeper to clip in a tidy finish from distance.
