We Want Eight
18th September 2016
ARGYLE made it seven wins in a row by seeing off Exeter City 2-0 at St James Park, but Derek Adams does not expect his side to take their collective foot off the gas any time soon.
Argyle maintained their place atop the Sky Bet League 2 table by easing past their Devon Derby rivals, with goals in a blistering opening half hour from Graham Carey and Arnold Garita.
The Greens also excelled in their defensive duties after going ahead, and Adams was keen to emphasise the importance of strong showings in all areas of the pitch not just for the Derby win, but the six victories that preceded it.
"We had big performances throughout the team today," said Derek, "and you have to have that when you come away from home. It's a hostile atmosphere and we dealt well with it.
"It was a team performance. We were outstanding from start to finish - you have to be when you come to these grounds.
"This is a difficult league. It's not easy to win games in this league. We've shown today that we've got mental strength, and we've got very good players in our team."
Despite both goalscorers, messers Carey and Garita, coming off with injuries in the second half, Adams is confident the pair will recover quickly to contribute more to Argyle's ever-growing momentum at the top of the division.
"They're fine," Adams said of the duo. "Garita had a slight hamstring problem - we'll assess him on Monday. Graham Carey had a head knock, so hopefully we'll be okay.
"We just have to put our foot on the pedal now, and we have to keep going. It's a difficult league, we know that, and we haven't done anything yet. We've put ourselves in a very good position early on."
