Argyle Under 18s 2 Bristol Rovers 0

ARGYLE'S Academy side hauled themselves off the bottom of the EFL Youth Allliance Merit League One when they recorded their first victory of the season.

By beating Rovers through goals from Alex Battle and Rio Garside, Argyle leapfrogged their Bristolian rivals, who subsequently replaced the Pilgrims at the bottom of the table as Argyle moved up to ninth spot.

The victory could have been even more comprehensive had Dan Rooney not seen his 25th minute penalty well saved by Rovers' goalkeeper Kieran Hudley after central defender Ben Morgan had brought down Battle in the area.

Battle then set up top scorer Alex Fletcher but his first time shot was superbly blocked by Luke Russe as the interval was reached goalless.

Argyle finally made the breakthrough on 70 minutes when Battle supplied a cool finish low into the corner of the visitor's goal from 10 yards.

The home side introduced Garside into the action on 71 minutes and he soon supplied a superb finish, curling his shot home from the edge of the area, two minutes later to complete the scoring.

Argyle: Michael Cooper, Sam Ryan (Billy Craske 60), Harry Downing, Callum Rose, Elliott Crawford, Ryan Law, Josh Richards (Rio Garside 71), Dan Rooney, Cameron Sangster, Alex Fletcher, Alex Battle (Aaron Goulty 76). Substitute not used: Max Chlds.
