AN incredible first half to the season for Plymouth Argyle Ladies continued with a League Cup win over Cardiff City.
The Pilgrims are now unbeaten in all league and cup games this season, and this victory was down to a combination of ruthless finishing, resilient defending and outstanding goalkeeping.
A battling opening 20 minutes saw Argyle eventually break the shackles with a cross from Amber Pollock expertly converted by the impressive Becky Atkins.
Argyle continued to press through the remainder of the first period and a decisive second arrived when substitute Dani Barr picked out Zoe Cunningham, who returned the ball inside for the prolific Natasha Knapman to stroke home.
Goalkeeper Michaela Phillips was tremendous throughout and she was extremely unlucky to see here clean sheet broken in the final stages, but Phillips reasserted her status as match-day hero with a vital late save.
