Not Like Us
1st February 2017
ARGYLE boss Derek Adams feels that his side were not themselves in defeat at Yeovil Town, as the Glovers' 2-1 victory condemned the Pilgrims to only their fourth away league defeat of the season.
Yeovil scored twice in quick succession, initially through Nathan Smith and then through Alex Lacey as the rain beamed down at Huish Park. A Jakub Sokolik goal was not enough to help Argyle claim anything from a game that was influenced heavily by the conditions.
"We have come away with a defeat away from home," said Derek. "It is not like us. We did not deal well with the conditions, and we didn't keep the ball well enough at times in the game.
"We did not deal well with the conditions tonight. In and out of possession I think we could have been better. We could have passed the ball better. We know what Yeovil are like, they are very direct. They play the ball into the big guy and play off of him."
Derek included new signings Sokolik and Nathan Blissett in his side, with the former scoring a goal against his former club. Derek did not want to talk about individual performances though, as the conditions made it a hard game for all the players.
"I am not going to speak individually about players," said Derek. "On a difficult night, I do not think there were any stand-outs in any of the teams tonight because the conditions were not conducive to that."
Derek also recalled Gary Sawyer to his side at left-back, who had not played since late August against Blackpool.
"He has come through well," said Derek. "But it's a difficult night for him. The conditions were difficult for everybody and it was good to get him through the 90 minutes."
Argyle head to Cambridge on Saturday, and Derek is expecting a tough fixture.
"Hopefully it is not as rainy as it is tonight but it is a difficult game. It always is at Cambridge."
Derek's side will be boosted by the addition of Ryan Taylor, who was away with his wife who was in labour, and Arnold Garita, who has a slight injury.
"He has had a slight hamstring strain yesterday," said Derek of Garita. "It is a different side this time so we just have to access that."
