Peninsula Report - Saltash 3 Argyle 2

A TERRIFIC game of football in front of a healthy crowd ended with Argyle succumbing to a 3-2 defeat at title-chasing Saltash in the Peninsula League.

The hosts enjoyed the ideal start when a shot from Dave Barker deflected agonisingly over the head of Pilgrim custodian Mike Cooper for an opening goal inside the first minute.

The youngsters in Green were then given a small mountain to climb when a foul by Jack Calver gave Ryan Richards the chance to double the lead from the penalty spot.

Argyle gradually found some rhythm and Callum Rose reduced the arrears from a corner, but Sam Hughes immediately restored the two-goal lead for Saltash.

The second half turned into something of a siege on the home goal and Calver smashed the woodwork twice before Dan Rooney set up a grandstand finish with a well-taken penalty, but there was no leveller.
