Shoes to Fill
ARGYLE’S 1-0 victory over Grimsby in the Emirates FA Cup extended their unbeaten run to five matches in all competitions – but it came at a price.
The Greens’ talisman Graham Carey scored the only goal of the match but also picked up his fifth booking of the season, which results in him missing our match this weekend against Bradford City.
Derek Adams believes that its time for the other players in the squad to step up, not just the player who takes Carey’s place on Saturday.
“Graham will be a loss,” said Derek. “It will be wrong of me to say otherwise, because he has been involved in all of our goals recently.
“We’ve got other people in the squad that will have to get their chance now - it’s up to them to take it. We’ve got options; we’ve got a number of players that can play but they have obviously got to take over Graham’s place. Other people have got to take over from him as well.”
Adams knows the quality in depth the Pilgrims have in their squad and he is hoping that will show on Saturday at Valley Parade.
“We’ve obviously picked up some good wins and draws along the way,” said Derek. “We have got players that are capable of opening up defences.Throughout the squad we have talented individuals a number of them will get their opportunity.
“It is difficult because the ones who have come in have had to come out for one reason or another. They haven’t had a steady run in the team at this moment in time. That’s not all their fault that just the way it has happened.”
