Stable Footing
ARGYLE manager Derek Adams praised Argyle chairman James Brent following the Pilgrims 0-0 draw at home to Portsmouth which took the Greens closer towards the Sky Bet League One Play offs.
The Pilgrims have exceeded all expectations this season, especially after a poor start, and Adams gave a nod to Brent for his steadying influence behind the scenes.
Derek also found time to praise his opposite number, Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett, while discussing social media frenzy when it comes to hyping up certain managers very quickl.
Adams said: “He’s a good chairman because he knows what he wants to do. From my point of view it is good to have stability and he has got the stability of this football club and doesn’t want to spend anymore money than he can spend. That is the reason we have a sound financial footing, it will only take us so far, he knows that, we know that and we keep on moving on.
"It is the nature of football, everybody has got a buzzword; they change manager and they get a couple of results then think they are the best thing since sliced bread. That is the world of social media, it is a strange world that we are living in.
When we are top, people want to put on Twitter and Facebook that everybody is brilliant. They win a few games and they are the best manager in the world. They haven’t even managed ten games and then they get a job.
"You look at the movement in the Championship, there’s a guy like Kenny Jackett who has managed so many games and the managers that are out there. Then somebody who is just out of footballing strip, a tracksuit or a youth team gets a job.
"How’s that right? It’s not right, some chairmen have got to have a good look at themselves at times.”
Five games remain in the season; four away from home and just one more at the Theatre of Greens, when Argyle take on Rotherham on April 28.
“It is going to be very busy over the next period," said Derek. "We go to Northampton, then we are away from home with a couple of midweeks. So, it is nice to be here and with Rotherham our last home game here."
