What's Happening at...Walsall
ARGYLE face Walsall as our first opponents of the 2018-19 season.
The Pilgrims will travel to Banks’s Stadium on August 4th with a kick-off time of 3pm.
The Banks’s Stadium is easy to find, being less than a mile from Junction 9 of the M6.
Over the summer Walsall have signed forward Andy Cook from Tranmere Rovers; midfielder Josh Ginnelly who originally played for the Saddlers from May 2016 signed for Tranmere in January 2017 but returned this season and Chris Dunn, a goalkeeper who had been at Wrexham since 2016.
The Saddlers have also lost goalkeeper Mark Gillespie, who has gone to Motherwell, as well as top goal-scorer for last season Erhun Oztumer, who has gone to Bolton.
18 year-old Dylan Parker has also signed his first professional contract for the club after making his way up the youth ranks.
Last season, Walsall finished 19th in League One; the 2018-19 season is their 12th consecutive season in League One.
Our two meetings with Walsall last season saw a 2-1 loss away from home on September 7 and a 1-0 win at home for our New Year’s Day fixture, with the winning goal coming from Ryan Taylor.
Pre-season saw the Saddlers’ first game against Rushall Olympic, where they lost 2-1. From there they faced defeats from Championship clubs Aston Villa and Stoke City, and notched a 2-0 win against an Ajax XI.
The Saddlers’ pre-season ended on a high with a 2-1 win over Cheltenham with goals from Nicky Devlin and new recruit Andy Cook.
In total, there were 11 trialist appearances throughout pre-season.
