Attacking Ingredients

ARGYLE’S striking prowess has been a major bonus in recent weeks, with 15 goals scored in the last eight fixtures in Sky Bet League One, plus numerous other chances created.

We travel to Rochdale on Saturday to face another side intent on attacking their opponents, which is a combination that will hopefully make for a tremendous encounter at Spotland. While a large dose of entertainment would be great, Argyle manager Derek Adams is just focussed on closing the gap on Rochdale, who are 18th in the table.

Our most recent trip to this corner of the north-west ended in a 1-1 draw and plenty of action, with Joel Grant on target for the Pilgrims, and Spotland is a familiar venue for Derek and his players.

“I’ve been there a number of times and we were there at the end of last season on a Tuesday night, which was a good game,” said Derek.

“Rochdale are a team that go for it, they play their game as if there is nothing to lose. It gets to a stage in the season when they may have to sort themselves out, perhaps defensively, to get more points, or keep doing what they’re doing.

“It’s an opportunity to go there and try to close the gap on Rochdale to four points, which would be beneficial to us. They are sitting in 18th position and we would like to close the gap.

“There are a number of teams in League One and League Two that don’t put too much pressure on themselves as a football club. They try to accumulate as many points as they can in the first half of the season.

“It used to be Morecambe who would fly at the start and then tail off. There are a number of teams like that and Rochdale really do come at you.

“I always feel that when you get to the run-down at the end of the season, it can be beneficial because you’ve got no distractions.

“We’ve got 25 games to go and it’s all business now.”

We have received the following message from Rochdale Sports Club, who would like to welcome Plymouth Argyle supporters for a pre-match drink before the match on Saturday.

They are situated within five minutes walk of the away turnstiles at Spotland Stadium, have car/coach parking and are within easy access of the motorway, There is also plenty of space for kids to play football.
