A YOUNG Argyle squad opened their account in the Youth Alliance Merit Two League with a deserved 2-0 victory over Forest Green Rovers in Nailsworth.
Argyle Academy Director Kevin Hodges said: "We had a bright start with the bonus of an early goal and it was pleasing that I was able to give quite a few of our younger players game time at under-18 level."
Argyle took a fourth-minute lead when striker Klaidi Lolos won the ball back inside the home half to race in on goal before supplying a cool finish with a low drive.
Argyle played some good football and, when the home side came back at them, they showed good discipline in defence and goalkeeper Michael Cooper did not have a lot to do.
Matt Ward fired narrowly wide on 25 minutes and Lolos saw his fine drive well saved as Argyle finished the first half on the attack.
Forest Green had plenty of possession in the second half without ever posing a threat on Cooper's goal and Argyle made the game safe six minutes from time.
Adam Randell's superb free-kick found Harry Downing coming in at the far post to send his header thundering into the home net.
Argyle: Michael Cooper, Ben Martin, Ryan Law, Ollie Tomlinson, Harry Downing, Tom Purrington, Adam Randell, Aaron Goulty, Rio Garside (Oscar Massey 85), Klaidi Lolos (Mani Skett 57), Matt Ward (Owen Raven 81). Substitute (not used): Shaun Hillier.
