Mike McCartney

WE were sorry to hear of the death recently of former Pilgrim Mike McCartney aged 63.

Mike joined Argyle in 1981 from top flight Southampton and was a tough-tackling full back who spent two seasons with the Greens. He went on to make 62 appearances scoring six goals.

He later returned to Cumbria for his second spell with Carlisle United playing a further 131 games. After his second stint in Cumbria he dropped down to non-league football with Gretna where he became player-manager and groundsman.
