Competition is Healthy

RYAN Taylor made his first start for Argyle since September in Tuesday’s 2-0 loss to Newport County in the Checkatrade Trophy but knows he will have a fight on his hands to take Freddie Ladapo’s place in the team following his return from an ankle problem

Freddie is a man in a rich vein of form, having just picked up the Sky Bet League One player of the month award for October, and he now has someone vying for his position, but Ryan enjoys the competition aspect of the game.

“I just want to try and get back in the first team squad,” said Taylor. “Freddie has been doing superb. I’ll try and push Freddie all the way and see what I can do.”

“I love competition for places, last season there wasn’t really that. I got injured and we struggled to replace me when I was injured. Freddie has done superb this season, he’s been on fire, so it gives me that bit between my teeth and I’m ready to push him on now.

“I’ve had three or four days of training, so I’m pretty positive to get through 75 minutes [against Newport]. I’m not fully fit but I feel pretty good.

“It’s been six or seven weeks, longer than we first thought. All the boxes are ticked and I’m ready to go. “
