Top Two in the SWPL

ARGYLE will be battling on two fronts tonight and two fascinating encounters ahead.

While the first-team take on Swindon Town in the Checkatrade Trophy at Home Park, our youngsters face a table-topper at home to St Austell in the Carlsberg South-West Peninsula League.

The Pilgrims drew 3-3 at St Austell early in the Peninsula season and it should be another tight battle, as we look to stay ahead of the second-placed Saints in the league.

“We welcome back some of the young pros after they were rested for the Callington game last week and we are very aware this will be a tough night,” said coach Robbie Hererra.

“We played at St Austell early in the season and it ended 3-3 on a day when our lads showed a lot of character to recover from 2-0 down and 3-2 down.

“Everybody will want a piece of Plymouth Argyle this season, regardless of what team we put out on the day, and we have to be ready for that. St Austell have players in their squad that have been involved in the professional game and involved at Argyle, so we know they will have a big incentive to perform well.”
