Willand A St Lukes Report

KLAIDI Lolos scored twice as we progressed through the opening round of the Edenvale Turf Devon St Luke’s Challenge Cup with a 3-0 victory at Willand Rovers.

The tall striker’s goals came in the second half of the match at Silver Street after Alex Battle had given the Pilgrims the lead midway through the first period.

Argyle enjoyed most of the play against Toolstation Western League Premier Division opponents who knocked them out of the same competition at the quarter-final stage last season.

Rio Garside and Lolos both went close before Cameron Sangster’s 28th-minute cross to the far post was met by Battle, whose first shot was saved but who followed up to convert the rebound.

Adam Randell then beat two players before firing off a shot that hit the post, and Garside went close with a chip that just cleared the crossbar.

Lolos doubled the score in the 57th minute when he powered home a shot from a wide angle and settled the tie 15 minutes from time after running at the Willand defence and beating the goalkeeper on his near post with a left-foot drive.

The Pilgrims’ reward for their victory is a tie at Carlsberg South West Peninsula League Exmouth Town.
