Forest Green 3 Argyle 2

ARGYLE went down to a 3-2 defeat at Forest Green Rovers in the Central League on Tuesday afternoon.

The Pilgrims started brightly enough at Stanley Park in Chippenham, creating the first opening on four minutes, when a cross from Luke Jephcott just eluded the run of Klaidi Lolos.

The next attack yielded an opening goal, when a half-cleared corner fell to Dan Rooney, who finished superbly in the bottom left corner. Aaron Goulty headed narrowly off target in a strong period for the Pilgrims but the home side then responded with a spell of pressure around the half-hour.

Forest Green drew level on 38 minutes and a cross from the right picked out the home forward for a simple finish. Argyle did come back with shots from Lolos and Adam Randell that flew inches over before the interval.

The game lacked tempo in the early stages of the second half and Argyle were grateful to a fine clearance from Ollie Tomlinson to repel Rovers. There was no such luck on 64 minutes and, again, a cross found a home forward with space to convert.

Argyle fell further behind before rediscovering some impetus, deservedly pulling a goal back through Jephcott with a deft finish after a pass from Goulty. Jephcott then had a similar opportunity to earn his side a drew but the Rovers custodian read his intentions, and the Central League campaign ends with a rare defeat for the Pilgrims.
