Loughborough 2 Argyle Ladies 4

ARGYLE Ladies moved closer to the top four positions in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division after an outstanding victory at Loughborough on the weekend.

The result was even more incredible, given that it came just 40 hours after winning the Devon Senior Cup Final against Buckland Athletic on Friday evening.

Argyle made just one change to the side that won the cup, with Ebony Dover replacing Jessica Jones. The Pilgrims opened the scoring through Natasha Knapman but the home side swiftly drew level with a goal from Rebecca Knight.

The scores remained level at the interval but Argyle were in front within a minute of the restart, with Helen Bleazard curling a wonderful effort into the top corner. Jones had now emerged from the bench and she made an immediate impact, finishing of a flowing move that also involved Knapman and Zoe Cunningham.

There was an unfortunate moment for Dover, as she was forced off with a suspected broken hand and Loughborough made it a tense finish when Charlotte Cooper forced the ball over the line.

The home side then hit the crossbar as they piled forward in pursuit of an equaliser, but that opened space for Argyle on the counter and they took full advantage, with substitute Nicola Champion reversing a clever pass inside for Jones to seal a great win.
