Joshua Grant Joins Backgrounder

ARGYLE'S quota of Grants has increased to three again with the loan signing of promising young defender Josh Grant from Premier League Chelsea.

Josh joins namesakes Joel and Conor at Home Park, and follows in the studmarks of departed Peter - now at Morton - after signing on a half-season deal from Stamford Bridge, and will wear the No.25 shirt. He will also carry the 'J Grant' name: Joel will just be 'Grant' and Conor remains 'C Grant'.

Josh, 20, arrives at Home Park having captained Chelsea Under-23s on 10 separate occasions last season in the Premier League 2 – scoring in grudge matches against the Under-23 sides of Liverpool and Arsenal .

Alongside his Premier League 2 exploits, Joshua made four appearances in the EFL Trophy, playing at centre-back in the fixture against Argyle at Home Park in which Chelsea Under-21s ran out 5-0 winners on the night.

Earlier in his career, Josh has lifted silverware as part of the Chelsea Youth teams that won the Under-19 UEFA Youth League in the 2015-16 season and the Under-18 English Youth League in the 2016-17 season, as well as winning the English FA Youth Cup in both 2016 and 2017.

In January, Josh joined Yeovil Town until the end of the season. On his debut, he started centre back in a 1-0 victory away at Mansfield Town. A week later, Josh started at right back as the Glovers beat Notts County 2-0 in his first appearance at Huish Park.

However, Yeovil struggled in the remaining games of the season, while Josh was injured, and found themselves bottom of Sky Bet League Two and were subsequently relegated to the Vanarama National League.

The loan deal runs for half of the season, with Josh keen to make a good impression for Ryan Lowe’s swashbuckling side.
