On-Pitch Entertainment
ONE lucky member of the Green Army will find themselves on the hallowed Home Park turf at 2pm on Saturday afternoon, as we welcome Colchester United in Sky Bet League Two.
The club is introducing a regular Crossbar Challenge feature during the pre-match routine at the Theatre of Greens, in which the match-day announcer will select somebody from the crowd to step on the pitch and attempt to kick the ball on to the crossbar, Soccer AM style.
There is an additional incentive, beyond the adulation of the gathered Green Army. A £50 awaits a successful challenger – although there is only one attempt. In the event that the crossbar is not hit, the £50 will rollover to the prize fund for the next home game, making the pot £100. The prize fund will rollover week on week, until somebody is able to strike the crossbar.
Please note, we only select from seats that are clearly occupied at 1:55pm – so to be in with a chance of playing the Crossbar Challenge, supporters need to be seated before then.
Saturday’s game will also be extra special for one local youth football side attending the Theatre of Greens.
Signal Box FC’s under-12 side will arrive at Home Park early, to participate in a training session at Harper’s Park, delivered by the team of qualified coaches at Argyle Community Trust. After this, they will be given tickets to attend Argyle’s Sky Bet League Two clash with Colchester United.
At half-time, the players will take to the Home Park pitch to play a short small-sided game in front of the Green Army. Signal Box train at the newly-opened Manadon Sports Hub, playing their league matches at Weston Mill.
Ethan Heard, Jimmy Rowe, Elliot Dawson, Jacob Rooks, Frankie Farrell, Harrison Blanche, Oliver Yabsley, Freddie Head, Reece Southern, Luke Cochrane and Lucus Gibbons will take to the pitch at Home Park - under the guidance of their coaches Mark Dawson, Jamie Yabsley and Lee Hellingsworth.
It is the club’s intention to roll this out into a full package which includes match tickets, a stadium tour, lunch, shop discount, discounted Community Trust roadshow courses and a signed football from the first-team squad.
We are trialling this initiative throughout August and will be looking for expressions of interest from the local community in due course.
Keep an eye on your official website over the coming weeks to see how you can get involved.
