Chichester 2 Argyle Ladies 1
ARGYLE Ladies kicked-off 2019 with a frustrating narrow defeat at Chichester City in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division.
The Pilgrims deserved more from their efforts against the league leaders, capitalising on a strong start with the opening goal from Becky Dandridge, who finished off a fabulous team move.
Argyle were playing with tremendous belief and very nearly doubled the advantage when a rocket from Helen Bleazard cannoned back off the crossbar, but this reprieve gave Chichester confidence and they levelled through Helen Ogle.
Amber Pollock was denied a second for Argyle early in the second half, as her fine strike was well saved. Ogle then hit the bar for the hosts but she would not be denied a painful winner, steering home a fine free-kick to break Argyle’s resolve.
Incredibly, eleven different players got on the score-sheet for Argyle’s development side in a 16-0 triumph over Weston-super-Mare in the FA Women’s South-West League Western Division. Despite the heavy scoreline, huge credit to Weston for continuing to battle until the very end.
