ARGYLE have landed the best No.10 in Sky Bet League Two after Danny Mayor became the Pilgrims’ second summer signing.

Danny, 28, comes to Home Park in the wake of his manager at Bury last season, Ryan Lowe. His 12 goals and 12 assists for the Shakers in 2018-19 saw him selected for the League Two Team of the Season.

It was the second time that Danny had made the composite season’s-end side of the best players in League Two, first picking up the accolade in 2014-15, when he was also named the overall best player by the division’s club managers for his performances for the Shakers.

Danny started his career at local side Preston North End in 2007, coming through North End’s youth system to sign a pro deal in December 2008.

He made his EFL debut during a month’s loan spell at League One Tranmere Rovers the following March, giving a foretaste of what was to come by assisting Rovers’ goal in their 1-1 draw at Northampton Town.

The following season, after Preston had been relegated to League One, was the midfielder’s breakthrough at Deepdale. Finally given a platform to perform, he made 21 appearances and won the Young Player of the Year award, as well as Goal of the Season thanks to a stunning strike against Hartlepool.

At the end of the campaign, he expressed a desire to play at a higher level, and after more than 60 appearances for the Lilywhites, he signed for Sheffield Wednesday.

His first-team opportunities at Hillsborough were restricted and, in 2013, he moved out on a short loan to Southend United before another loan move quickly followed – to Bury, where he shook up the Shakers.

His loan was made permanent and he went on to make 235 appearances for the Shakers, scoring 36 goals and assisting another 42 becoming no stranger to Ryan Lowe, having played alongside him and, last season, under his management.

Lowe’s scintillating brand of attacking football drew praise from a host of the countries best managers, including Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp.

The Shakers managed an impressive 82 goals –the most in the league, outscoring eventual winners Lincoln City by nine goals – 24 of which were either scored or assisted by Danny.

The playmaker will pursue similar success in Devon.
