Royal Navy 1 Argyle Ladies 9

ARGYLE Ladies returned from RNAS Yeovilton with a convincing win against a spirited Royal Navy team in the first pre-season friendly game, with Helen Bleazard helping herself to four goals.

The match proved to be an excellent workout, which blew away the cobwebs and was played in two 30-minute sessions and a 15-minute session.

With Trevor Rodd concentrating on his role as Director of Football overseeing all three Argyle teams, manager Dave Leonard is now in overall control of the first team and has moved up Marc Bonney from Coach to assistant manager. Vicki Fannon has been promoted to the first team as coach from the Development team, and Jason Haswell remains as goalkeeping coach.

“We now have a good team, on and off the pitch,” said Leonard “The players done well with some good performances. It was nice to get back on the field and proved to be a really good workout.

“What was good was that we could have taken our foot off the gas at 4-1 but we didn't, as we continued to press high and we got the rewards with the goals.”

Argyle took 14 players to Somerset, which included a trialist in goal and new signings Danni Wyatt and Ellie Bishop.

Becky Dandridge opened the scoring and the goals kept coming with the score reaching the end of the first 30 minutes 4-0 in Argyle’s favour. The Navy responded by scoring after sloppy defending but Argyle continued to extend their lead to 6-1, with Leah Burridge and Helen Bleazard netting doubles and Ellie Bishop adding the other. Bleazard went on to bag a four-goal haul and another brace from Jessica Jones rounded off the scoring.

Argyle continue their pre-season at Exeter City on Thursday, July 25, with a 7pm kick-off.

Argyle: Trialist in goal, Faye Ivall, Ebony Dover, Katie Middleton, Mollie Taylor, Helen Bleazard, Becky Dandridge, Jessica Jones, Kayley Lane, Amber Pollock, Leah Burridge, Natasha Knapman, Danni Wyatt, Ellie Bishop.
