Greatest Pilgrim Centre-Backs
Ranked No.1
Graham Coughlan

Graham Coughlan is your choice for the greatest Argyle centre-back and a Pilgrim who will forever remain a hero to the Green Army.

Cocko learned his trade in Ireland and was signed by Blackburn Rovers in 1995. A lack of first-team opportunities eventually led him to sign for Livingston in Scotland and it was from here he joined the Paul Sturrock revolution at Home Park.

It was immediately a perfect fit, as Cocko formed a superb partnership in defence with Paul Wotton. Coughlan was a mountain in the air, fearless in the tackle and also scored numerous important goals.

Incredibly, for a defender, he finished top goalscorer as Argyle won the Third Division title and Cocko was named our Player of the Season. Two years later, he was the key man in securing the Second Division crown and was rewarded as the Division Two Player of the Year.

Cocko was an absolute inspiration to everyone at Home Park and a sad day when he left for Sheffield Wednesday in 2005. He then played for Rotherham, Shrewsbury and Southend before moving into coaching.

Cocko is now manager of Bristol Rovers but will always be a great Pilgrim.

The Greatest Pilgrims are sponsored by the Big Green Lottery. Sign up to the lottery for chances to win weekly cash prizes, a monthly prize of £500, the annual draw of £12,000 spread across ten finalists and monthly bonus prizes.

The Big Green Lottery raises valuable funds for the Argyle Academy, including the purchase of a new minibus for our young stars last year. At present, our BGL membership stands at 650 and our aim is to reach 1,000 members, which would effectively triple the quarterly donations to the Argyle Academy.
