Greatest Pilgrim Goalkeepers
Romain Larrieu
Ranked No. 1
After receiving hundreds of votes from the Green Army and accumulating well over a thousand points in our scoring system, Romain Larrieu has won your nomination as the greatest ever Argyle goalkeeper.
‘Le Keeper’ came to Home Park on a trial in 2000 after spending his early career with Montpellier in his native France. Ro quickly did enough to impress manager Paul Sturrock and became a key figure in the legendary team that won two promotions to reach the Championship.
Over 12 years as a Pilgrim, Ro made 318 appearances and it would have been more had he not suffered a couple of nasty injuries and competition from the fabulous emerging talent of youngster Luke McCormick.
A delightful man off the pitch, Ro fell in love with all things Plymouth and all things Argyle. Between the sticks, he was commanding in the air and a superb shot-stopper, who became one of the most respected custodians in the second tier of English football.
Even when age and injuries began to creep up, 'Le Keeper' remained a hugely respected figure at Home Park and even worked as a coach under manager Carl Fletcher before finally leaving the club in 2013.
However, he is still a massive supporter of Argyle and happily settled in the area with his family. A true gent and brilliant goalkeeper. Romain Larrieu is your number one choice as the Greatest Pilgrim Goalkeeper.
