Argyle 4 Falmouth 2

ARGYLE turned on the style in a fine first-half display to secure an important victory at home to Falmouth, keeping up our hopes of overcoming Exmouth and Tavistock in the race for the Carlsberg South-West Peninsula League title.

On a heavy pitch at Coach Road, the Pilgrims quickly took control, creating the first chance with a turn and shot from Jude Boyd. The deadlock was broken on 11 minutes when Boyd released Lionel Ainsworth for a deft finish.

Alex Fletcher quickly doubled the lead with a fine finish on the turn and Fletch was also involved in the third, laying the ball into the path of Luke Jephcott for a precise strike into the corner of the net.

Falmouth responded by pulling a goal back immediately after the restart and the visitors enjoyed some decent pressure until a speculative shot from distance by Fletcher restored the three-goal cushion.

The visitors managed a late consolation from a corner but Argyle were good value for all three points.
