Ryan's Choice
ARGYLE boss Ryan Lowe is starting to have welcome selection dilemmas with injured players returning to action.
A handful of first-team players were involved in Argyle’s fixture at Southport against Everton in the Premier League Cup on Sunday, with Dom Telford and Ryan Taylor re-entering the fray from injury, and new signing Billy Clarke also playing 60 minutes.
“They wanted to play, and we wanted to put a strong team out because we knew Everton were going to be strong,” said Ryan. “It was minutes in the legs and that’s what the boys have needed.
“Billy looked a lot sharper and played 60 minutes, Dom needed it certainly and Tayls, the three of them, we felt that they needed to get some minutes in them but overall the performance from the lads was terrific.”
However, right wing-back Joe Riley currently has an injury of his own but is training through it and trying to play through the pain barrier, as he wants to avoid the operation on his previous broken arm because it can lead to him missing a number of games.
“Joe is alright, he’s fine,” said Ryan. “I think it is just the impact, if he gets an impact on it, it will be sore, but it’s settled down now.
“I think it’s broke still but he doesn’t want to get the operation because he can’t afford to really, as it will lead to him missing more games. He just needs to not get whacked on it as much or fall on it as much, then hopefully he will be alright.”
It all adds up to an interesting team sheet in tomorrow's Sky Bet League Two clash with Forest Green Rovers.
