Under the Vale
ARGYLE travel to Port Vale on Saturday to face a side two points below us in the Sky Bet League Two table but also a Valiant team showing recent improvements.
Vale opened their campaign with a respectable draw at Colchester United and club stalwart Tom Pope got off the mark within five minutes of the season starting. A second 1-1 draw followed at home to Northampton, with former Liverpool youngster David Amoo scoring the goal.
After a narrow defeat to Burton Albion in the Carabao Cup, Vale incredibly draw a third successive league game 1-1. Richard Bennett scored their goal at Salford but it was also the third time John Askey’s men had allowed a lead to slip.
Goals from Bennett and Amoo finally gave the Valiants their first win, as they defeated an in-form Forest Green at Vale Park but this was swiftly followed by a 5-2 humbling at Grimsby Town.
A late own goal against Cambridge ensured three games unbeaten at home in the league and Vale only lost to a late strike at second-placed Newport County last weekend. It is going to be another tough challenge for the Pilgrims but a great game to win.
