Argyle made it two draws from two games in the Merit League so far, despite a dominating performance against Cambridge United.

Central defender Cole Gibbings and Kieran Edworthy were on target for the Pilgrims, who twice went ahead in the game, with George Munday and Randy Bulackio converting two of the visitors’ three chances.

Edworthy's third minute header was pushed over the bar, and it was a sign of things to come as Argyle started brightly. Only a minute later a Will Jenkins Davies corner was headed home by Cole Gibbings.

The Greens sought a second, with Jenkins Davies heading over from close range before Freddie Issaka robbed a defender only to see goalkeeper JJ Griggs deflect his shot wide.

Edworthy, Jack Endacott and Jenkins Davies all failed to convert chances and Argyle were made to pay as Munday volleyed Cambridge level on 39 minutes.

Argyle responded with Jenkins Davies firing into the side-netting before the half-time whistle bought relief to the overworked Cambridge defence.

Darren Way's side required just five minutes of the second half to restore their lead. After Griggs had blocked Issaka's shot, Edworthy fired home from an acute angle to make it 2-1.

Again, Argyle went after a goal to give them a two-goal cushion. Good play along the bye-line by Jenkins Davies saw substitute Joe Hatch's first time shot somehow turned on to the bar by Griggs.

Hatch was once again denied by Griggs and Caleb Roberts’ goalbound effort was deflected wide before Bulackio's thunderous near post header flew across goal and into the top corner of Zak Baker's goal.

Baker then made a great save to deny the visitors a late winner which would have been a pure injustice for the home side.

Argyle: Zak Baker, Lewis Colwell (Harry Shield 72), Jack Endacott, Harley Sneap, Oscar Halls, Cole Gibbings, Caleb Roberts, Will Jenkins Davies, Kieran Edworthy, Freddie Issaka, Finley Wilkes (Joe Hatch half-time). Substitutes not used: Jensen Ireland, Henry Donovan, James Morley (gk).
