Argyle's run in the EFL Youth Alliance League Cup came to an end in Hampshire as two first half goals were enough to see Portsmouth win this third-round tie.

Portsmouth made an early breakthrough as the found the back of the Argyle net after just five minutes.

The young Greens came back with Kieran Edworthy going very close with a long range effort before Issaka was foiled by the Pompey goalkeeper.

The home side doubled their lead on 23 minutes, but Argyle heads did not drop and skipper Oscar Halls almost put Joe Hatch in on goal before a great save from Zak Baker prevented Pompey snatching a third.

Darren Way's lads surged forward at the start of the second half and Hatch went close with a drive from the edge of the area.

Jack Endacott went close from a free-kick and Halls headed wide as the Greens pushed for a way back into the match, but Portsmouth held out.
