Academy Spectator Update

After another high-profile and successful week for the Argyle Academy, interest in the Pilgrims’ youth set-up continues to rise.

The club has received a small number of messages from supporters expressing their interest in attending the Pilgrims’ under-18 EFL Youth Alliance fixtures at home. In some cases, supporters have also questioned why information on kick-off times and home match venues is not more accessible.

While the club encourages more interest in the Academy, with it now placed front and centre in our vision for a successful and sustainable club, there are a number of logistical issues currently preventing us from promoting these fixtures.

While complying with league and authority guidance on holding fixtures in a COVID world, there is currently a limit on friends and family in attendance at these fixtures.

When even the players themselves are limited to who can attend the fixtures, it would not be fair to allow unrelated supporters to attend games.

The second logistical challenge comes in the form of playing venues. Presently, with long-term plans as yet unfulfilled, the club’s Academy set-up operates across several venues city-wide to play out our full fixture schedule across age groups. This schedule is often subject to change, based on changing circumstances at venues.

We apologise for the frustration that this may cause supporters who simply want to throw their support behind the next generation of Argyle players, and it is a frustration shared by the staff at Home Park.

We will continue to assess the situation based on updated guidance, and hope to be in a position soon to reveal more information about the club’s long-term plans for the Academy set-up.

Thank you for your support.
