Argyle have made their fifth signing of the January transfer window with the acquisition of Adam Forshaw.

Forshaw, 32, joins as a free agent, having been released from Norwich City, who he joined in the summer, and becomes the second permanent signing Argyle have made this month, following Matty Sorinola’s arrival on Wednesday.

Midfielder Adam began his career with Everton, and played in the Toffees’ Under-18 side under current Argyle Director of Football Neil Dewsnip. He became a professional at Everton, playing twice, before being released in 2012.

Forshaw had spent the end of the 2011/12 season on loan at Brentford in League One, and signed for the west Londoners on a permanent basis that summer. He played exactly 100 games for Brentford, scoring 11 times.

In his second season at Griffin Park, Brentford were promoted in second place, with Forshaw included in the divisional Team of the Season, and named the League One Player of the Year.

In the summer of 2014, Adam stepped into the Championship with Wigan Athletic, with former manager Uwe Rosler, but moved again in January 2015, heading to Middlesbrough.

At the Riverside, he was part of a Boro team that was promoted to the Premier League in 2015/16, and then relegated the following season. His time at Middlesbrough ended in January 2018, with 103 games played and three goals scored.

Forshaw’s next move was to Leeds United, for a reported £4.5m. He was a Leeds player for five-and-a-half seasons, but injuries restricted his total of appearances to 91. At one stage, Adam did not play for almost two years because of a hip injury, but he returned to frequently play in the Premier League.

Forshaw left Leeds last summer, heading to Norwich City, for whom he started four games, and made five substitute appearances, including at Home Park earlier this season.

The deal is subject to EFL approval. Forshaw will be available for Argyle’s squad for Saturday’s game against Cardiff City.

Adam will wear the number 27. His home shirt is sponsored by the Senior Greens, his away shirt sponsored by Clare Clark and Mark Williams.
