Argyle’s first signing of the close season is defender Alex Hartridge.
Alex, 27, will become a Pilgrim on 1 July, following the expiry of his contract at Burton Albion. He has signed a two-year deal.
Hartridge is primarily a central defender, but has also played at left-back, during a career that began at Exeter City.
Devon-born, and raised in Totnes, Alex came through the ranks at Exeter, spending several loans spells with Truro City and Bath City, before truly breaking into the Grecians’ first team in 2020/21.
Alex played just over 150 games for Exeter, before leaving for Wycombe Wanderers in the summer of 2024. He played just 14 times, mostly cup games, before returning to St James Park on loan for the rest of the season, and once again playing regularly in red and white.
Last summer, Hartridge signed a one-year deal at Burton Albion, and played 42 games for the Brewers, 38 in the league, scoring three goals.
“I’m really pleased to make Alex our first signing of the summer,” said Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley. “He had a good season for Burton Albion, and can strengthen us in more than one position. He has some attributes in areas that we have identified that we can improve, and I’m delighted at how early we have managed to get him on board.”
Director of Football Derek Adams added: “Alex is a player with an excellent profile. Good left-sided players are sometimes hard to come by, and at 27 he has a great deal of experience, while also being in the prime of his career.
“He knows the area, will complement the players we already have, and I’m pleased we have made him our first signing this close season.”
The signing is subject to EFL approval. Alex will be sponsored by County Fasteners Ltd.
