Argyle beat Tottenham Hotspur with confident victory at SuperCupNI

Argyle's XI v Tottenham Hotspur at the 2026 SuperCupNI.

Argyle moved into top spot in Group D of the Boys’ Junior section at the SuperCupNI with an impressive 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur.

The Greens’ rapid start was too much for the Category One academy side, with high pressing allowing Freddie Lewis to pick off a loose pass out the back and slot home just 14 seconds after kick-off.

The lead was quickly doubled a minute later, thanks to a Tottenham own-goal from a corner, but Dan Thompson’s side cared not how they had scored; pure elation was on show with mad celebrations in the corner at Broughshane.

Attacking play continued as the minutes ticked on, with Ethan Tichias coming close, but it was Tottenham that struck next, getting back into the game through a long-range free-kick effort.

After the second-half restart, the London side found a leveller. Quick and direct play ended with a finish on the right of Argyle’s 18-yard box, but it did not seem to affect the Greens’ positive mindset at all.

Seconds before the 50th minute mark, Frankie Truscott struck the far post of Tottenham’s goal with a powerful effort, with groans heard around the ground. Cody Baxter continued, however, picking up the ball and winning a penalty after being tripped inside the area.

Joseph Snell converted from the spot, as he did in Monday’s win over Chicago City, giving the lead back to the Greens.

Five minutes later, Tichias beat the high line of Tottenham, confidently drove into the box and found the back of the net with a curling finish, which turned out to be the goal that sealed three points.

Argyle’s Group D matches finish with a game against County Londonderry at the Riada Stadium on Wednesday, 29 July, at 3pm.
