Argyle scoop EFL Community Award
Plymouth Argyle FC are delighted to announce that the club has been recognised by the EFL as the South West and Wales winner of the ‘Your Move Community Club of the season’.
The EFL has chosen six regional winners highlighting the outstanding work they have delivered to their local communities, off the pitch.
Argyle were selected having impressed the judges with our innovative Green Social Prescribing Project which saw us partner with the city’s most innovative organisations to collaborate on a project of free activities to help improve the mental and physical wellbeing of those most adversely affected by the pandemic.
The aim of the project was to encourage people from the local community to become more physically active and get back outdoors.
Using Central Park as the base, a wide range of activities were provided to ensure people were engaged but also found the right activity for them.
Through the work of the Argyle Community Trust, the club is dedicated to making significant difference to the lives of people living in the local area, through projects designed to tackle societal issues such as loneliness, food poverty and education, amongst others.
Argyle CEO, Andrew Parkinson said, "‘We are delighted to have been named the EFL community club for the South West.
"The award is recognition of the fantastic work that is carried out in so many ways within the community every year by so many people at the Trust and Club and particularly so throughout the pandemic.
"Being at the heart of the community is central to the values of the club and the award recognises the importance the club can play in the most testing of circumstances."
Argyle Community Trust, Chief Executive, Mark Lovell said, "With many examples of good work that goes on around the country, we are delighted to be recognised and to receive this award.
“Argyle Community Trust has a vision to provide opportunities to all people within our local communities, by inspiring and empowering them through sport and importantly through the brand of Plymouth Argyle.
“We are delighted that this has been recognised and aim to continue our work within the communities of Devon and Cornwall to inspire and make a positive difference.”
All 72 EFL Clubs, through their Club Community Organisations, deliver a wide range of projects 365 day per year focusing on improving health and wellbeing, raising aspirations, realising potential and building stronger, more cohesive communities. Using the appeal of football, EFL Clubs collectively invest over £59m in their communities annually.
Established in 2006, the EFL Awards is an annual gala event which celebrates excellence both on and off the pitch.
The winners will receive their awards at a special event hosted at the House of Commons on 19 April alongside project participants, staff and volunteers from each Club Community Organisation (CCO).
