Bradley full of praise as Argyle Women secure safety
Argyle Women retained their FAWNL Southern Premier Division status with a crucial 2-0 victory against Gwalia United on Sunday afternoon.
With Billericay Town falling to AFC Wimbledon, the Greens’ two-goal win secured not only three points but safety from relegation in the final game of the season.
Second-half goals from Lulu Jarvis and Georgia Wilson meant jubilation and celebration would be seen after the full-time whistle, much to the happiness of Head Coach James Bradley.
“We got the job done,” Bradley told Argyle TV. “It wasn't the prettiest of performances. I think we've played better and not won in other games, but we got the job done today and that was all we needed to do and focus on. I thought it was a really professional performance.
“The first 10 minutes were a bit cagey like you'd expect. I thought we became the dominant team over the game after and that carried on until the final 10 minutes of the tie.
“I said to the squad all week, we're going to have to do the ugly bits of football really well on Sunday in terms of winning the first contests, second duels, and then hopefully we'd be able to get the ball down and play, and that happened. Our first goal was from a set play, which we worked on during the week, and then the second one was on the counter-attack when I knew the game would start to open up at the end of the game.
“I took this over three months ago, and had no real expectations around what I was walking into, but I've just been absolutely taken aback by the players' character. First and foremost, we've just got a group that are fantastic human beings and have been fantastic to spend time around. I've thoroughly enjoyed it and it's all credit to them.
“It means the world to me, but like I said full credit to the players and the staff. James Morley and Dan Greenhough, who have come in and helped me, and Tom Hunter, who's come in and helped on the medical side. Matt Green has been here for a long time and without him, we wouldn't have had a chance of doing what we've done. Sorry if I'm forgetting anyone as well!
“It’s been a real team effort - staff and players all together until the very last moments and now, we can go and enjoy it.”
