Brickfields Hub Redevelopment - Group Exercise Programme and Track Access Update

We are pleased to announce that, whilst the Brickfields Sports Centre is closed for redevelopment, Argyle Community Trust will continue to offer a group exercise programme in Devonport, starting week commencing Monday 11 September.

Thanks to our friends at Plymouth Albion Rugby Club, classes will run from one of their large marquees based within the grounds of Brickfields, providing a suitable solution for the continuation of classes as we work towards building your thriving new community hub.

Floor based classes such as Pilates, will run from an indoor room located in the Rugby Clubs Brunel Stand (PL1 4NE).

We have made every effort to try and minimise disruption to the existing programme and, through consultation and feedback, fully understood the importance of group exercise programmes to participants and instructors.

Further to the announcement that some existing classes will continue to be offered, we are pleased to confirm that these will be run by current instructors.

Unfortunately, some instructors have decided not to continue offering their services during the redevelopment period, but we hope to welcome them back once the centre reopens.

If you have an active membership with Plymouth Active Leisure (PAL), you will be able to access a maximum of two classes for FREE each week as part of your membership.

Any members then wishing to attend additional classes must pay the single class pass rate. This ensures that we can manage expectations by retaining spaces for non-members and generating income to cover instructor wages and venue hire to ensure the programme is sustainable during the closure period.

Those with memberships will need to provide their PAL membership number at the time of booking and will be required to show their membership card to the instructor when attending a class.

If you are a non-member wishing to attend a class, there is an option to purchase a reduced single class pass for £5.

Once purchased, you will receive an email confirmation and be enrolled onto the class register.

The group exercise programme will be reviewed regularly and consider the needs of participant, instructors, and local people.

This is an initial programme which we hope to grow and develop during the closure period. Spaces are limited and offered on a first come, first served basis and must be pre-booked.

We will not be taking any form of payment or registration on the day. However, you can call us to book a class before it begins if you arrived without pre-booking.

The programme is now LIVE on our website where classes can be booked.

You can also book by phone on 01752 522202, or via the dedicated email brickfields@pafc.co.uk.

Athletics Track During Plymouth Actives tenure, we are aware that the athletics track has been available to book each day on a regular or recreational basis. We are pleased to confirm that the track will remain open and can therefore still be booked during the temporary closure.

Unfortunately, due to opening hours, the track won’t always be available to book throughout the day.

If you are interested in making a recreational booking, please contact us to check availability. If there is regular demand to open the track for bookings on a specific day and time, then we will consider this.

Groups interested in block booking the track should make an enquiry with us directly by phone or email.

Argyle Community Trust Head of Facilities Lewis Coombes said: “It is important to us that we work with local people not just to deliver a fitness hub that the community deserves and will be proud of, but that we ensure disruption is kept to a minimum and fitness and wellbeing journeys are continued.

"We are pleased to retain the services of some existing instructors who have a vital connection with their members and whose experience is vital to their fitness and wellbeing goals.”
