The Game
Swansea City v Argyle. Swansea.com Stadium. Tuesday, 26 August. 7.45pm. Carabao Cup second round.
The Opposition
Swansea have had a respectable start to their eighth consecutive Sky Bet Championship season.
Alan Sheehan's side faced a tough trip to Middlesbrough on the opening day, losing 1-0, before three consecutive games unbeaten in all competitions.
First, the Swans defeated Crawley Town 3-1 in the first round of the Carabao Cup, before Ronald scored a second goal in two games to see off last year's play-off finalists Sheffield United, 1-0.
Then, in their third consecutive home fixture, the Welsh side forced a 1-1 draw late on against Watford, via Zan Vipotnik.
Swansea are 13th in the second tier, one result in each of the three columns.
The Gaffer
Alan Sheehan had a near 20-year playing career which took in nine permanent clubs and nine loan spells, with his longest spells coming at Notts County and Luton Town.
In 2022, he returned to Luton as a coach, and then followed manager Nathan Jones to Southampton, but Jones was sacked after three months. Sheehan then joined Swansea as a coach to Michael Duff, taking over on an interim basis when Duff departed. Sheehan remained a coach for new boss Luke Williams, and once again became interim head coach when Williams left in February.
In April, Sheehan accepted the full-time role, his first in senior management.
The Squad
Swansea captain Ben Cabango (below) always stands out in the heart of their defence. The 25-year-old came through the Swans' academy, and has made over 200 appearances for the club he calls his own. Cabango has 12 senior caps for Wales, since his debut against Finland in 2020.
Midfielder Ethan Galbraith was one of the stars of Leyton Orient's League One promotion attempt last season, before earning a move to the second-tier with Swansea. The Northern Ireland international, who has been capped four times by his country, already has a goal and assist for his new club.
Winger Ronald has scored twice for Alan Sheehan's side this term, his third season in English football. The Brazilian joined Swansea from Gremio Anapolis in January 2024, and has since played 71 times for the club.
Recent Meetings
The teams met in December 2024, at Home Park, with Swansea winning 2-1. Jay Fulton and Liam Cullen were on target for Swansea, with Mustapha Bundu’s goal not enough to recover any points for the Greens.
Swansea then completed the double over Argyle, with a 3-0 victory at home in April. First-half goals from Lewis O'Brien, Harry Darling and Josh Key condemned the Greens to a heavy defeat.
Argyle were last victorious at Swansea in February 2024, 1-0, thanks to a Morgan Whittaker goal.
