Changes to Argyle pre-season schedule

Argyle can confirm some changes to our 2023/24 Sky Bet Championship pre-season schedule.

Due to the Home Park pitch undergoing a resurface during the off-season, it will not be ready to host the planned fixtures against Forest Green Rovers and Salford City on Saturday 22 July and 25 July, respectively. The fixture against Forest Green Rovers will continue to take place but will now occur behind-closed-doors at Harper's Park, while the Salford City game has been cancelled completely.

We are looking into the feasibility of streaming the Forest Green Rovers game and will have updates in due course.

The Pilgrims have also added an additional fixture to the schedule in the shape of a game with a League One side which will take place this Saturday, 15 July behind-closed-doors, and will not be open to supporters.

Steven Schumacher's side were due to play a behind-closed-doors game against an unnamed Premier League side, but this fixture will now replace this.

The extra match this weekend adds another competitive fixture to the Greens’ build-up to the highly anticipated new campaign, augmenting a pre-season portfolio of games which has started with a 1-0 win over cinch Scottish Premiership side Heart of Midlothian, and a 2-0 victory against Plymouth Parkway.

Upon the changes, Director of Football Neil Dewsnip, commented: "Although it is disappointing that we will no longer have two fixtures in front of the Green Army ahead of the season, it is important to ensure the pitch is in a good place ahead of the Championship campaign.

"Argyle fans recognise the style of football we try to play, for which the pitch is so important, and we want to ensure it is in an outstanding place for the opening game against Huddersfield in August. We are confident in the pre-season schedule we have put in place and the players are currently showing excellent fitness levels and form.

"Although we will have to wait a little longer, we all can't wait to be back in front of the Green Army again at Home Park and are relishing that first league game on 5 August. We look forward to seeing you then and can't wait for you to be loud and proud, as ever."
