Commemorating Mayflower Day 2025

Mayflower Steps with Argyle Shirt

The Mayflower is a distinctive part of our club's DNA, recognisable to football fans across the world, but it has not always been centre stage of our crest. This year's home kit pays homage to the crests used throughout the history of our club.

The first crest used by Argyle was in 1911. The circular design features a cross and four towers from the Plymouth coat of arms. This badge lasted until 1920, being replaced by plain shirts without a badge.

1949 was the next time our shirts featured a badge. This time it was the city's full coat of arms.

This lasted until 1964 when the Mayflower took centre stage of our crest. The iconic ship was briefly replaced in the mid-70s by a monogram design which was fashionable at the time, before the Mayflower returned in 1982, and has remained ever since.

There have been many variations in that time, but the Mayflower has become a symbol associated with our club as recognisable as our famous green shirts.

On this day in 1620 (16 September), the Mayflower left our city on a treacherous voyage across the Atlantic Ocean. More than 30 million people can trace their ancestry back to the 102 passengers aboard the Mayflower, on what is one of the most famous voyages in history.
