Argyle’s Foulston Park development reached another milestone on Friday evening, as the Academy’s new 3G pitch officially opened with a fixture between the Greens’ Under-15s side and a Devon County FA Under-16 team.
The new pitch forms part of the wider redevelopment of the former Brickfields Sports Centre, which will become a permanent home for Argyle’s Academy and Women’s team when complete.
Several familiar faces attended the occasion, including Chairman Simon Hallett, Head Coach Tom Cleverley, Chief Executive Paul Berne, Sporting Director Derek Adams and Head of Football Operations and Recruitment David Fox.
Already home to The Hub, which offers a gym, soft play, esports and gaming, a community café and health and wellbeing services, Foulston Park continues to develop as a sporting and community destination.
The recent installation of the inflatable dome covering a 3G pitch has already been a success too, allowing Argyle’s Academy and Women’s teams to train using state-of-the-art facilities.
Argyle Chairman Simon Hallett reflected on the progress made so far: “It’s a wonderful moment in the history of Plymouth Argyle. Every time I come to Foulston we’ve made a bit more progress, but actually playing a football match here his feels like a big step.
"Our teams have been training in the dome for a few weeks now and people have been using the Community Hub - which is a key part of this whole project. I am very proud of what we are doing here."
Academy Manager Phil Stokes believes Foulston Park’s impact for Argyle’s youth players will be huge: “To have the dome and the 3G pitch will be fantastic for our training programmes, the players and the staff. It will be brilliant for the Academy to finally have a base of its own and I know everybody is looking forward to it."
