Harvey White's first words as a Pilgrim

Harvey White being interviewed for Argyle TV

Midfielder Harvey White became an Argyle player earlier this week, when he penned a three-year deal that will keep him at Home Park until 2029.

The former Stevenage, Derby County, Portsmouth, and Tottenham Hotspur man has encountered the Pilgrims on numerous occasions throughout his career to this point.

Speaking on these experiences, White discussed just how excited he is to get started in PL2, upon signing his contract.

“It feels amazing,” White told Argyle TV. “Obviously I played against them [Argyle] last season and experienced the fans here. It’s a big step for me to come to this big club, and I can’t wait to get started.

“The fans are so loud every home game, I played here [Home Park] with Derby, and the crowd were electric that night. I’ve only ever played here at night, so seeing it under the lights was special.

“Every player wants to get the interest early and get settled, both football and living as well. You know the club are going to get the best out of a player when you get in early and get a full pre-season. Six weeks off is a long time, just to get back out on the pitch kicking a ball around, I’m looking forward to it, especially meeting the new boys.”

Both White and Argyle Head Coach Tom Cleverley have spoken of the similarities between each other’s on-the-pitch style.

The 24-year-old believes it is this similarity that will help him develop further with the Pilgrims, into next season and beyond.

White said: “When I met the manager, he was very honest. Obviously being an ex-midfielder as well, I feel like I can learn from him and that it’s the perfect move for me, especially with this manager.

“I obviously want to play at higher levels as well and take this club back where it belongs. Working under this gaffer, I can only get better."

The former Stevenage man also revealed how conversations with former promotion-winning Pilgrim Jordan Houghton had helped convince him to sign for Argyle.

“He spoke highly of the club, the people, the fans, and obviously the club’s massive anyway,” said the midfielder. “So, hearing it from him, I took a lot of thoughts from what he was saying.”

Finally, when asked about what the Green Army can expect see from him in an Argyle shirt, White described not only his ability on the ball, but also his desire to get stuck in defensively.

He said: “I’ll give 100% for the boys, for the club, for the fans. On the ball I’m creative, I love to take a set-piece and put it in areas that defenders and goalkeepers hate to defend or catch. I like to get the fans of their feet with a good pass or a good tackle.

“I’ve worked on set-pieces for ages, I hope most of the time they’re good and I can put it on some of the boys’ heads.”
