Hitting our goals with Evergreen

Evergreen

Throughout the lifespan of Evergreen, we have been privileged to make significant investments in football operations at Home Park, fulfilling our members’ mission statement to help ‘Be the Difference’.

Over the summer, Evergreen members have provided significant support for three specific areas of football operations at Home Park: the men’s first-team, Argyle Women and the next generation of talent in our Academy.

For the first-team, Evergreen revenue has been put to use by the medical department with the purchase of a specialist knee and hip machine, alongside a game ready console. Argyle physio Gareth Law explained how these acquisitions have aided recovery for the players.

“The knee and hip machine is an isokinetic device, which helps to assess muscular strength and joint stability, and is particularly useful for the knees,” he said. “It works on the muscles by providing pressure to assess the strength of that joint. We’ve recently used this device in the rehabilitation and assessment of knee injuries to Julio Pleguezuelo and Zak Baker.

“The game ready console speeds up the recovery process in the early stages after injury by pumping cold water around the joints. It is a sleeve that wraps around the injured area and provides extra compression.”

From the women’s side of the club, Evergreen funds have been deployed in providing accommodation for players, therefore allowing Head Coach Marie Hourihan to spread her recruitment net a lot wider than in previous seasons, and the approach is clearly working, as evidenced by a superb start to the campaign for Argyle Women.

October half-term will have an extra Evergreen twist for players in the under-11 and under-12 age groups of the Academy, as funds generated by our members is being used to support a special residential trip to Yorkshire.

Over the course of three days, the young Pilgrims will play fixtures against Leeds United, Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, a fantastic experience for their football development, but it is not just on the pitch that benefits are reaped. Spending time away from home in this team environment is crucial to their understanding of the challenges that could lay ahead in the world of professional football.

We thank all Evergreen members for their amazing support and it would be great to welcome more into this special Argyle family.
