Home Park Stadium undergoes summer improvement works

Home Park

While the football may have stopped over the summer at Home Park Stadium, the work didn’t, with several stadium update projects taking place.

The Beacon Electrical Mayflower Grandstand has undergone steelwork renovation throughout the last few months which forms part of our ongoing stadium upkeep.

An array of improvements have also been made to the Biffa Fan Zone behind the Mayflower Grandstand. The Fan Zone has become the place to go for the Green Army ahead of home matches and these improvements will enhance the match-day experience even further.

The Fan Zone will move to a club operation this season after initially being run by external traders since its introduction.

As part of that, the club have invested into the Fan Zone site to put in permanent power and water supplies, with three new concession containers also in place for the start of the season as well.

Taking full ownership of the Fan Zone will also allow our events team to utilise the space more frequently for non-match day events, providing further revenue for the football club.

The improved pitch position following last year’s investment also allowed a number of events to take place at Home Park during the summer, while still returning to prime condition in time for the home pre-season fixture against Bristol City in PL2.

The other major project that’s taken place is the building of a new television gantry, with works set to be complete by the end of August.

The current gantry will be extended by nine metres to accommodate the new EFL and Sky Sports requirements, while also giving extra space for our football analyst team to further aid their match-day operations.

Two new gantries will also be built in line with the 18-yard box so that external broadcasters can use these, instead of scaffolding over seats. Season ticket holders previously displaced will be contacted by the Ticket Office in early September and offered the opportunity to return to their original seats.

The scaffold structure in the Kawasaki Barn Park End will also be removed and a new gantry installed, meaning we will have a larger capacity in home and away ends.

All these gantry works also allow the EFL to deliver some enabling works which will result in less cabling being required for television games.

Behind the Lyndhurst Stand, power has been installed allowing further external catering units to operate, expanding the food and drink options for supporters. These will be available both pre-match and at half-time.
