Argyle Women extended their unbeaten run at Home Park on Sunday afternoon, beating Billericay Town 9-0.
A dominant first-half display, followed by continued goalscoring in the second 45 minutes, handed the Greens three points on a sunny afternoon in front of the Green Army.
Layla Proctor found the back of the net four times in 16 minutes of play, with Charlotte Whitmore (two), Phoebie Poole (two), and Ellie Noble rounding out the scoring for Argyle.
Head Coach Marie Hourihan was delighted with how her side performed at the Theatre of Greens and knows confidence and belief will be taken from the game into an important two-game week in the League Cup.
“A really good day, overall,” Hourihan told Argyle TV. “We wanted a response off the back of a disappointing defeat last week at Watford. We knew Billericay started the league campaign with two defeats and saw it as an opportunity to really impose ourselves and be ruthless.
“We were really pleased to come in at half-time 6-0 up and then in the second half getting those three other goals. A lot of effort goes into set pieces by both staff and players. I've got to give Dene [Field] credit for that. He puts a lot of time and effort into those set plays and the girls really buy in. We’ve really borne the fruits of that.
“It's easy to get caught in the moment and start losing all sense of your basics, really, and get carried away with obviously the score line, but conceding no goals is the most important thing for me. Goal difference could prove crucial towards the end of the season, so I’m happy on that front.
“We now go into another difficult week. We've got two games this week in the cup, against Marine Academy Plymouth on Thursday and then a game here against Bridgwater United on Sunday.
“The confidence will build momentum. We've got to get back on that train now and all steam ahead to Thursday.”
